Tyla is a 'Tim Barnett Ofshore 50'. Steve Gilmour delivered Tyla on completion in Nelson to Auckland in May 2008. The route was via the west coast of New Zealand, round the North Cape and down the eastern side of the North Island to Auckland.

The boat is powered by 2 Cummins QSL 500HP engines. To carry sufficient fuel for the trip two bladders were used each holding 900 litres. The boat was refuelled from these, once mid west coast and later again off North Cape. This enabled the vessel to be cruised at 10 knots. Once round North Cape speed was increased to 18 knots to Tutukaka where a final refuelling was done. The voyage to Auckland's Viaduct Harbour was then completed.

The hull is aluminium. The owner intends to use the boat for fishing and diving activities.
